Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising
There were three musical acts during the Sternwheeler Days Festival in Cascade Locks last weekend. Of the three that performed, my favorite was Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising. They played what they called Original Roots Bluegrass. Most of their tunes were original and had a fantastic sound! I had the opportunity to photograph the band as they performed and then got to talk with them during a break. All four members of the band are super friendly and very easy going. The band includes Kathy Boyd on bass, Tim Crosby on fiddle/mandolin/guitar, Tom Tower on Dobro/banjo and Dennis Nelson on guitar. All four take turns singing. My favorite songs from their performance were “Risky Business” and “Twelve More Miles to Clatskanie”. Thanks to Phoenix Rising for allowing me the opportunity to spend the time with them. More information and samples of their music can be found at their website: http://www.phoenixrisingband.org.
